Keep the edges believable
The difference between a good and a bad background swap is the edge. The AI matte keeps soft transitions around hair and moving hands instead of a hard cut-out line, so the subject sits on the new background instead of floating above it.
For the most natural result, pick a background with light coming from the same side as in your clip. The tool does not relight the subject, so a sunny beach behind a person lit by a desk lamp will still look staged.
Green screen replacement
Shot on green? Upload it like any other clip: the AI does not need the green, so uneven lighting and green spill on the edges are less of a problem than with a colour key. If you would rather composite in your own editor, download a green screen MP4 or a transparent ProRes 4444 MOV instead.
Live preview before you export
When you use your own image, the subject and the new background are combined in your browser. Play the preview, swap the image as often as you like, and export only when it looks right. Swapping the image does not use more credits.
The live preview needs a browser that plays transparent WebM: Chrome, Edge or Firefox. On Safari, choose a solid colour, which is rendered on our side as an MP4.
